Graveyard Train comes to Wollongong

Graveyardtrain_001
Welcoming a new audience to Wollongong Town Hall, Yours & Owls Presents will be offering their first of what they hope to be many live band events marking a significant revival in Wollongong’s local live music scene. The launch of this exciting event will be a 3 to 4 band lineup including Melbourne’s Graveyard Train and Wollongong’s very own royalty Mother & Son.

In keeping with the ethic of Yours & Owls, a visual element will be added to the show, commissioning local visual artists to install visual projections and light displays, perfectly complimenting the evenings music and making this a standout event in the local live band scene’s calendar.

Tickets are strictly limited. Go to http://www.wollongongtownhall.com.au/events.php#Graveyard Train, Mother & Son and special guest

To listen go to: http://www.graveyardtrain.com.au/ and http://motherandsonmusic.tumblr.com and go to

Jamming on the South Coast

Garage
Two Jam sessions are happening on a regular basis on the South Coast. On the first Saturday of the month, head down to the Jamberoo Bowlo. As you may know, Kiss Events used to an Open Mic at the Jamberoo Pub, but as I'm working full time at Wollongong Town Hall, I couldn't keep this going. Good to see the bowlo filling the gap and making Jamberoo the jam hub of the south.

Musician wanted for this Saturday

Craichouse_logo

The Craichouse (pronounced crackhouse) needs to get a band/act for our comedy room, for this Saturday night 12/5. They would also like to get a few more acts to add to our list of regular acts for future shows.

Details are as follows:

Venue is The Craichouse Comedy Club, downstairs at The Builders Club, 61 Church St Wollongong.

The act could be a band, duo, solo, whatever. Solo or duo work well because it's easier to set up and you don't have to split the money as far but they venue can and does have bands occasionally.

Style should be not too heavy or too loud. Absolutely no requirement to be funny. Probably best if they don't make the crowd sad and depressed but no need to make them laugh. Basically they want people to still be able to have a conversation while the music is on.

The act needs about an hour and a half in three sets; an hour from 7.30 - 8.30 before the show starts, 20 mins at the interval, then maybe one or two songs to play as people leave after the show. They pay $150 for the gig.

Set up time would be whatever time you need to be there to be ready by 7.30. Doors open at 7.30 and you have to be ready to go then. Organiser Stu Macpherson can be there any time during the afternoon to help set up.  The venue has a basic sound system and can provide some leads and mics etc. Easier if people are self sufficient but they definitely do have some gear.

Anyone interested should email Stu Macpherson at bookings@wollongongcomedy.com.au.

FOLK FESTIVAL artists applications now open, closing 30 June 2012

Artist Expressions of Interest to perform for the 28th Illawarra Folk Festival - 17-20 January 2013 are now open

New South Wales' biggest and most diverse folk festival is on again in January 2013.

For four days from January 17-20 the Bulli Showgrounds will be home to the 28th annual Illawarra Folk Festival – with its sensational line-up of folk, world, acoustic, Celtic, bluegrass and gypsy music, as well as poetry, dances, workshops, parades and sessions.

We are looking for folk music artists who will be part of the event and be involved not only in concerts but also sessions, singalongs, workshops, theme concerts, dances, children’s events where possible.

The Illawarra Folk Festival is an event which exubes friendliness, participation and having a good time with new and old friends.

We are getting ever increasing artist applications to perform at our Festival so we are looking to minimise the effort for artists to apply and for us to assess applications. We will have a 2 part process with the first stage being an Expression of Interest to Perform.

Please read through the information and instructions on the Artists Application & Remuneration Guidelines webpage prior to deciding to express an interest to perform.

We will also be holding our 10th Folk Music School to be held during the festival on 16 and 17 January 2013. We are looking for tutors and students.

We are also looking for artists who are interested in performing on the Green Music Train which will run twice on Saturday 19 and once on Sunday 20 January 2013.

Click here to go to the Performer guidelines and the application form.

Expressions of interest to perform close on 30 June 2012.

thanks

Open mic at the Jamberoo Bowlo

Come one, come all! Have a play, then jam on later. Poets, balladeers, tall tale tellers and musicians of all sorts welcome.

Please contact Kate (not Kiss Events) by email (katetroy101@gmail.com) if you are interested in performing. If you would like a gig, this is your opportunity to show the locals what you've got. Bring your mates and have a meal with Mario who cooks a mean feed.
